Denomination of Origin
    
It is the first of he denominations of origin of Galicia and one oldest after "Rioja". Could be spoken of wine 
of the Ribeiro, from century XII, time which was the wine more expensive than entered Santiago. In century 
XVI, it is exported of the Iberian Peninsula and Ribadavia internationally happens to be well-know through 
the wine. The origin and its quality are endorsed by a regulation advice who initiated his activities in 1957
and which will be the one in charge of guarging by the interests of producers and consumers controlling 
therefore the origin and quality of the grapes and the wine.

Their vineyards extend by the southern part of inner Galicia and occupy a surface  of 3000 has of traditional 
native varieties. Between that they are the vineyards of Castro Rei. The Groundson wich the vineyards extend, 
are made up of granite, deep and rich in organic matter. Unlike others galician denominations, D.O.Ribeiro is
characterized by their white and red multivarietales wines from native varieties.

The wines of the "Ribeiro" are light, fresh and graceful, with combinations of exquisite aromas. The targets 
are of the pale color pajizo, with greenish irisaciones, moderately acid with alcoholic degree average and 
smooth retrogusto. The red ones are of red color purple with tones violets intense in nose, smooth to paladar 
and tanics.

Every year the fair of the wine of the Ribeiro, exaltacion to wines of the zone is celebrated in Ribadavia 
(capital of the Ribeiro) and declared of tourist interest, that in this 39 year celebrated edition and in which 
"CASTRO REI"  obtained a second prize.
